May 18, 2012 - Wow - tonight’s Supernatural season finale, “Survival of the Fittest” was twisting, turning and tense. With a crazy cliff-hanger ending - can’t believe it’s going to take 4 months to find out what happens next!
May 18, 2012 - My review of Hudson Valley musician Lee Brown’s new CD, “Shadows of Life”
May 18, 2012 - Can’t wait to see tonight’s Supernatural finale, “Survival of the Fittest” (CW 9pm/8c)
I’ve been checking out CW’s promo clips (like this one, posted on YouTube by CWTVSupernatural) and the official synopsis: “SAM AND DEAN STORM SUCROCORP TO TAKE DOWN DICK ROMAN - Dean (Jensen Ackles) and Sam (Jared Padalecki) prepare for battle with Dick Roman (guest star James Patrick Stuart). Dick’s in the final phase of this plan and the Winchesters must team up with Castiel (guest star Misha Collins), Bobby (guest star Jim Beaver), Meg (guest star Rachel Miner) and Kevin (guest star Osric Chau) the prophet to stop him. However, Dick is one of the smartest enemies they’ve ever faced so it’s a mind game to see who can keep the upper hand. Robert Singer directed the episode written by Sera Gamble (#723).”
Looks like it’s going to be an edge-of-the-seat, nail-biting finale - with a clifhanger leading into a long “Hellatus,” until season 8’s premiere in October!
May 14, 2012 - Just watched the re-broadcast of Johnny Depp on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Another awesome, cool and fun interview! I had missed the original air date - thanks to my sister for letting me know about the re-broadcast! This made my night!

May 12, 2012 - Ian & I just saw “Dark Shadows” at the Overlook Drive-In - what a fun & awesome movie. I absolutely loved Tim Burton & Johnny Depp’s take on the show that I loved so much as a kid. Like “Ed Wood” (& also, to an extent, “Charlie & the Chocolate Factory” & “Alice In Wonderland”) it was their loving & affectionate homage to the influences that helped shape the actor & moviemaker that they are today. Yes, it had its funny & campy moments, but it was also dark & dramatic & had a lot of heart. Great, witty writing by Seth Grahame-Smith, & fantastic performances by the cast - Michelle Pfeiffer, Helena Bonham-Carter, Eva Greene, Johnny Lee Miller, Jackie Earle Haley, Chloe Grace Moretz & Bella Heathcote. Loved seeing the cameos from the late Jonathan Frid & his fellow original cast members David Selby, Lara Parker & Kathryn Leigh Scott, as well as Christopher Lee & Alice Cooper, too! And (without giving too much away) it was great to see an open-ended ending that left room for a possible sequel. Now I’ve got to go back & re-watch some of the original episodes!

May 10, 2012 - The highlight of my night - seeing Lee Brown at the store, & listening to his new CD, “Shadows Of Life” while having a drink & relaxing with Ian after work.
Lee’s long-awaited recording was definitely worth waiting for - it’s a great mix of his “classics” with more recent songs, in an excellent (if not a final cut) production by the late Jacques Cohen at Jacques’ Space studio. And nice supporting work by Todd Giudice on guitar & backing vocals; Leah Wilkes on backing vocals; & Sue Buzzard on violin.
The CD is $10 & available now through Lee’s Facebook page or by contacting minimalblu@hotmail.com. I hope everyone will hear Lee’s awesome music!
Video of Lee ‘s performance of “Illusion of the World,” at his much-missed Cubbyhole Coffeehouse, in 2007. So glad I got to see many of Lee’s tuneful, intimate & fun music/storytelling shows over the years! I hope to see him playing out again in the future - until then, I’ve got his excellent new CD to listen to!

May 8, 2012 - Ian and I saw “The Raven” today. A pretty good thriller with an interesting premise - during the last days of Edgar Allen Poe’s life, the poet/writer (played by John Cusack) helps the police find a serial killer who bases murders on Poe’s stories, such as “The Murders in the Rue Morgue,” “The Pit and the Pendulum,” and “The Masque of the Red Death.”
This is the third movie in a week that we’ve been to see at the theater/drive-in - I think that’s a record for us!

May 8, 2012 - “But the wild things cried, “Oh please don’t go - we’ll eat you up - we love you so!”
And Max said, “No!”
The wild things roared their terrible roars and gnashed their terrible teeth and rolled their terrible eyes and showed their terrible claws but Max stepped into his private boat and waved goodbye.” - Maurice Sendak, “Where the Wild Things Are”
